3 of family found dead

Three members of a family, including a four-year-old, were found dead under mysterious circumstances in a house here while three others were unconscious, police said on Monday. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

‘The incident happened at Rajendra Park Extension at Nangloi in west Delhi when a neighbour found the six unconscious in their house Monday morning,’ said a police officer.

A police team took them to Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital where Prempal, 40, Akhilesh, 17, and Vikas, 4, were declared dead by doctors. Devkali, 35, Lakshmi, 10, and Amit, 7, were under treatment in the hospital.

‘After knocking at the door several times, I asked my daughter to enter the house through a window. She found them on the floor frothing at the mouth,’ said Lalli Devi, a 42-year-old neighbour of the family.

‘The one room house is on the second floor,’ police said.

Devkali told police they had dinner and went to sleep leaving the earthen stove burning for warmth. In the morning, her family started vomiting and falling unconscious, she said.

‘It might be a case of suffocation due to the earthen stove. Food poisoning could be another reason,’ Additional Commissioner of Police V Renganathan said.

‘The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination and the exact reason for the deaths would only be known after it,’ he said.
