In Burdwan, the CPI(M) workers Fajal Sheikh and Dukhiram Dal were attacked by the unidentified miscreants when they were returning home after the poll in their area. The miscreants started hurling bombs when the duo was returning home.

The victims fell on the ground when they attempted to flee from the area. The miscreants attacked them while they were on the laying on the ground and started beating them with wooden logs.

Jawans of the Central Force rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The miscreants ran away when they heard jawans approaching the area. The jawans and police found the duo writhing in pain and took them to hospital. Later in morning they succumbed to their injuries. Police has arrested five CPI(M) supporters in this connection.

The CPI(M) district leadership raised allegation against Trinamool Congress for their involvement in the murder. Brushing aside the allegations, Trinamool Congress leaders claimed that it is an outcome of factional feud of CPI(M).

At Raina in Burdwan, a Congress worker Khandekar Ali was beaten to death. Congress workers are claiming that it is a political murder whereas police suspect that he had been killed following dispute over ancestral property.

In another major incident, a Trinamool Congress worker was shot at near Simurali in Nadia. Police said the victim Samrat Biswas was attacked when he was returning home on Thursday night. He told the police that around four to five miscreants had approached him on motorbikes and forced him to stop. Before he could realise, the miscreants opened fire from a point blank range. He alleged that the accused are CPI(M) backed goons. They left the place within a few minutes. Noticing him writhing in pain some local people rushed to the spot and rescued him. They took him to Chakdah State General Hospital. He was later shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru memorial Hospital in Kalyani after his condition deteriorated. The incident led to tension in the area as people staged a demonstration against the attack on the Trinamool Congress worker. A complaint has been lodged with the Chakdah police station and police have initiated search for the accused.
