3 including child killed in accident

Three persons including a child were killed in a road accident at Malbazar in Jalpaiguri when a car collided head first with a truck on Wednesday morning. Police said that the victims were yet to be identified but they came to know that the car was heading to Bihar.

After speaking to the people who witnessed the accident, police came to know that both the vehicles were at a high speed and the accident took place as drivers of both the vehicles lost control while taking the sharp turn. The car was on the wrong flank of the road and despite trying his level best the driver of the speeding truck had failed to avoid the collision.

Local people initiated the rescue work, but they failed to bring the victim out of the car. Later police went to the spot and cut a portion of the car using an electric cutter. The police extricated the bodies from inside the damaged car and took them to the hospital. Apart from the driver, there were a woman and child on the rear of the car. All three were declared brought dead when taken to Mal Sub-divisional Hospital. The car bears the registration number of West Bengal and police are trying to identify the owner of the car first. Driver of the truck and the helper were also injured and they were admitted to the hospital. Local people claimed that often accidents take place on that stretch of the road despite road signs being put up by the police.
