3 family members among five killed in accident

In a tragic incident five persons were killed including three family members of a Panchayat Pradhan when a car the victims were travelling fell in a pond at Egra in East Midnapore on Saturday.

Police said that the five persons who were the residents of Kasbagola area in Egra were returning from Odisha. The wife and two sons of the Panchayat Pradhan of Egra I, Kazi Samsuddin Gaffar died in the accident, while the other two were the driver of the vehicle and his helper.

It was learnt that Kazi’s family members went to Bhubaneswar to consult a doctor and while returning the car met with the fatal accident. Police said that the car was at a top speed when it lost control and fell in a pond near Mohanpur. The local people came to the rescue but they were unable to save the lives of the victims. After being informed police reached the spot. Hundreds of inquisitive villagers thronged along the pond to see the rescue operation. Some local divers were also called in to rescue the persons. They later brought out all the five persons from the pond. Kazi’s wife and two sons were found dead while the driver of the vehicle and his helper died after being taken to a nearby hospital. The bodies were sent for the post mortem examination.

A pall of gloom descended on the family members of the deceased from the Kasbagola village. The local people told the police that the driver could not control the vehicle as it was at a high speed. Police have started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. The car was fished out of the pond. 

The investigating officers were examining the car which was badly damaged in the accident. Police were also investing to determine whether there was any possibility of foul play behind the incident. The technical experts of the car manufacturing company were called in to examine the car. The police are trying to get to the bottom of it and have started a probe into the incident.
