3 engineering students shot by security guard
Carcasses of 13 peahens were found in Bhagwanpura village in Ajmer on Sunday. According to Pushkar Police, the carcasses were found on a hillock near Ram Mandir.
“We had received information that few national bird have been found dead in mysterious circumstances in Bhagwanpura in Pushkar Tehsil. We, along with forest department officials, reached the spot and found carcasses of 13 peahens,” Nathu Lal, investigating officer in the case, said. The carcasses have been taken to Deer Park in Pushkar for postmortem to know the exact cause of death. Prima facie, it doesn't seem to be a case of poisoning.
The carcasses were found near farms where farmers feed the birds almost daily.
Exact cause of death will be known only after postmortem examination, forest official Mohan Lal Sanwaria said, ruling out the death of the birds due to bird flu. According to an NGO working for conservation of the national bird in the state, nearly 2,000 peacocks have been reportedly killed in the last one year in the desert state. Most of the deaths have been reported in Bundi, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Tonk, Jaipur and Nagaur districts.
“State government might have strict laws to punish the accused but due to lack of coordination between police and forest department, 90 per cent of cases do not reach any conclusion,” said animal rights activist Babulal Jajoo.
