3 dead, 10 hurt in accidents

Three persons were killed and 10 injured in two separate road accidents in East Midnapore and Howrah on Friday.

At Mahishadal in West Midnapore, a Haldia bound heavy truck rammed into a house. Ten persons were injured in the incident. Police men reached the spot and rescued the victims with the help of the local people. Two of them – Samir Pal and Ashis Dhara – were declared brought dead when taken to the hospital. Police said that it seems that a tyre of the truck burst and the driver had failed to control the vehicle.

In another incident at Badamtala in Howrah, a youth, Arun Sharma was killed and his friend who was riding pillion was injured when their bike skidded and hit a road side railing near Badamtala bus stand. None of them were wearing helmets. Arun received severe injuries to his head. He was declared brought dead when taken to the hospital while his friend is still fighting for his life.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched a campaign “Safe Drive Save Life” and the police have taken various steps to ensure that no one ride bike without wearing helmet.
