3 children die after house catches fire

Three children of a family were killed when a fire broke out in their house at Sitalkuci in Cooch Behar on Wednesday evening.

Police said all the three children were below 7 years and they were sleeping in the house when the incident took place.

Both the parents were not present at the house when the fire broke. The father had gone to work and mother went to a neighbour’s house.

Some local youth saw smoke billowing out of a window and a portion of the house was gutted in the fire. They rushed and initiated the work to douse off the flames.

The fire spread fast as the house was packed with inflammable materials.

It took around one and a half four to douse off the flames. Entering the house, the fire fighters found the charred bodies of three children.

The firefighters are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, but it is suspected that the fire broke out due to overturning of a fire lamp.

“The children were deep in sleep so it could be that they noticed the fire after some time,” said a fire fighter.
