2G scam: Oppn slams ‘leaked’ JPC report

The surfacing of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) draft report on 2G in the media has opened a pandora’s box as the report is critical of the decisions taken by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and has given a clean chit to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. JPC chairman PC Chacko has washed his hands off the ‘leaked’ report.

Former telecom minister A Raja, who is an accused in the 2G case, claimed that all decisions were taken in consultation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. ‘I had done everything in consultation with the Prime Minister. After I was arrested, I advanced the same argument in court and at the time of framing of charges, the same argument was forwarded. My stand has been very clear,’ said Raja. The former telecom minister who has been charged in the draft report with misleading the Prime Minister on 2G spectrum issue said that he would send a detailed note in his defence to the panel next week.

While putting the blame on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA government, the draft report concludes that the NDA government had to forego revenue to the tune of Rs 42,080.34 crore while offering Migration Package to cellular operators.

The BJP, however, said that the Congress is trying to subvert the truth, with Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha questioning the clean chit given by the JPC to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. ‘If the JPC finds that they were innocent, all I can tell you is this: JPC report will meet the same fate as the Bofors JPC. Its credibility will probably be worse than earlier JPCs,’ said Arun Jaitley.
