2G case: Karunanidhi’s wife moves SC for exemption from deposing

DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s wife Dayalu Ammal on Monday moved the Supreme Court,  seeking exemption from personal appearance before the Special CBI Court on medical grounds. She has challenged the order of the trial court, which had refused to give her exemption from personal appearance. She is a prosecution witness in the 2G case. Earlier she had also approached the Delhi high court, which had asked her to move the Supreme Court as the 2G case is being monitored by it.

Justice Sunil Gaur had also asked CBI to ensure that no coercive order is passed by the trial court till lunch time on Monday, the day when she had to appear before the trial court as prosecution witness.

‘I can’t hear the matter on merit. You (Ammal) have to make a mention before the Supreme Court. It is being monitored by the Supreme Court and I am not going to touch it. You may be having a good case on merits but I can’t hear,’ Justice Gaur said after CBI’s counsel Sonia Mathur questioned the maintainability of the plea. Ammal, in her plea before the high court, had contended that she has been diagnosed with cognitive and behavioural abnormalities in June, 2012.
