29th edition of Bishnupur fair kicks off amidst huge fanfare

This year, Bishnupur fair will feature many development projects and schemes, taken up by Bengal government.

The fair is now 29-years-old. Friday was the first day of Bishnupur fair and it will continue till Tuesday.

Many tourists including foreigners have already checked in the hotels before the inauguration of Bishnupur fair.

The venue of the fair is K G College Maidan, which was filled up by local people during the inauguration.

“This year, we are showcasing Kanyashree, Sabuj Sathi and Mission Nirmal Bangla. People will get to know more about those projects. We'll try to spread the message among the common people,” said an officer of district administration.

“We are already getting good response from the common people. The foreigners are also showing interest to know about the projects by the state government,” the officer added.

“We have set up four special stages in this fair. These are Jodubhatta Mancha, Ramananda Mancha, Gopeswar Mancha and Jamini Roy Mancha. Various cultural programmes will be organised in those stages,” an organiser said.

The organisers also informed that singer Kumar Sanu, Shaan and some other renowned singers could be seen performing in this year’s fair. Trinamool Congress MP, actor Dev may also pay a visit to the fair ground.

There are 105 stalls in this year’s fair. There are 64 handicraft stall among those 105 stalls. “We have been waiting for this fair. This is our yearly festival as well. This fair is one which people identify with this area,” said a local resident.

However, the organisers are looking for the biggest visitor turn-out this year.
