29-yr-old woman crushed under bus at VIP Road

A 29-year-old woman died in a road accident at VIP Road on Friday morning. She came under the wheels of a private bus. Her husband was also seriously injured and was admitted in a local hospital.

Police said, Moumita Paul, the victim died on the spot. She was also taken to the hospital. But the hospital authority declared her brought dead. Her husband Kiranmoy Paul’s condition is critical.

“Kiranmoy was riding a motorbike. Moumita was the pillion rider. A Barasat – Botanical Garden route bus hit the motor bike from behind.

Both of the riders fell on the road. Moumita came under the rear wheel of the bus. Kiranmoy tried to save his wife. But he received injuries while doing so,” said a police officer.

Infuriated local residents blocked the road and started protesting against rash driving.

The officers from Bidhannagar Commissionerate controlled the situation.

However, the accused driver managed to escape from the spot. Police seized his vehicle.

“The passengers in the bus tried to capture the accused driver. But he managed to flee,” said a police officer.

Meanwhile, in another incident a student died in a road accident at Basirhat, North 24 Parganas. Police said, Tumpa Das, a 20-year-old girl was going to her college riding a bicycle. A speeding bus hit her from behind.

“She fell on the road and came under the wheel of the bus. She died on the spot,” said a police officer.

The girl was the first year student of her college. “Her body was sent to post-mortem. Her parents lodged complaint against the owner of the bus,” said the officer.

“We have started a case. The accused driver escaped the spot. But we will arrest him soon,” the officer added.
