27-yr-old guns down married woman, self in Central Delhi

A 27-year-old man allegedly shot dead a married woman and himself in the presence of the woman’s two children at their residence in central Delhi’s Baljit Nagar area on Tuesday.

The deceased persons were identified as Rakesh alias Amit, a businessman from Rohtak in Haryana, and Priyanka (27). Priyanka lives in Delhi with her husband <g data-gr-id="34">Shipu</g>, who works at a private courier company, a seven-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, said a senior police official.

During <g data-gr-id="30"><g data-gr-id="32">investigation</g></g> it emerged that Rakesh was a frequent visitor at Priyanka’s residence and <g data-gr-id="26">Shipu</g> had forbidden his wife from meeting him. Priyanka’s husband <g data-gr-id="27">Shipu</g> and the children knew Rakesh from quite a long time.

Around 4 pm on Tuesday, Rakesh arrived at Priyanka’s residence and the children saw them indulge in a conversation, which soon turned violent, said the official.

Rakesh suddenly pulled out a gun and allegedly shot Priyanka on her head from a close range, after which he allegedly shot himself on his head. Hearing gunshots, neighbours rushed to Priyanka’s residence and found the two bodies lying in pools of blood, said the official.

“One of the neighbours called up the police control room and a team was rushed to the spot. Priyanka and Rakesh, whose identity was ascertained with the help of documents in his pocket, were both rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead,” said DCP (Central) Parmaditya.

The police have so far questioned relatives of both Rakesh and Priyanka, including her husband and children, but they haven’t been able to ascertain the motive behind the act, said an official privy to the investigation.
