26-year-old woman foils snatching bid, shot at in east Delhi

A 26-year-old woman was shot at by two unidentified motorcycle-borne youths when she resisted their attempt to snatch her neighbour’s gold chain in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area on Monday, police said.

‘The incident took place at approximately 8.30 am when the two bikers tried to snatch the gold chain of Komal Malhotra’s neighbour, Anshu Bhasim,’ said a senior police officer. ‘Komal and her neighbour both tried to catch hold of the bikers when one of them fired at Komal. The bullet pierced through her hand and hit her in the chest,’ he said.

She was rushed to Deepak Memorial Hospital and is stated to be out of danger. The woman is pursuing her post graduation from Delhi University and stays with her family in the Jhilmil area of east Delhi.

A case of attempt to murder and snatching has been registered and a search is on to nab the two snatchers, police said.

In another incident, two unidentified bikers stole a bag containing Rs 15 lakh from the  employees of a cash collection company on Monday afternoon in the Karkardooma Court complex in east Delhi.

The incident occurred near the Cross River Mall, close to Karkardooma Court complex, between noon and 1.00 pm. 'The bikers beat up two employees of CNS (a cash collection security company) who had collected Rs 15 lakh from a Haldiram's outlet and fled with the bag containing the cash,’ senior police officials said.

Police said, ‘CNS employees Ajay and Narayan collected cash from the snacks and food chain Haldiram's and were going to their van parked outside the firm's office when they were looted.’
