25-year-old man slits throat in lockup

A 25-year-old man who was locked up at the Aman Vihar police station allegedly slit his throat in an attempt to kill himself in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Monday.

According to the police, the man has been identified as Anil. He was charged of murder and was kept in a lock up. He has a criminal background with many cases registered against him.

Police said that a few days back, he was granted bail in a rape case under Section 376 of the IPC and on the same day, he killed a man named Ghanshyam with a country-made pistol in the Aman Vihar area. The police arrested him under relevant sections of the law and locked him up. 

After taking permission from the local court, Anil was put under judicial custody for two days. When the police officials came on Monday morning to take him for the court hearing, they found that he had slit his throat and lying in a pool of blood. 

The police officials immediately rushed him to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital in the Mangolpuri area where he was operated and was later transferred to the Safdarjung hospital where officials said that his condition was stable.

According to the police, Anil slit his throat with a sharp edged object and the weapon of offence is suspected to be a broken tile of the lock up wall. Police have started the investigation.
