25-year-old gang-raped in moving car in Salt Lake Sector-V

A 25-year-old girl from a neighbouring country was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving car at Salt Lake after being kidnapped from outside a restaurant on Sunday midnight. Police said the victim, who is originally from Nepal, used to stay as a paying guest at Baguiati and work at a hotel at the same place. On Monday night, she came out to have food with some of her friends at a restaurant in Salt Lake Sector-V. 

It was in the midnight when she was standing all alone outside the restaurant after her friends had left to get a car to return to Baguiati.  Finding a car approaching, the woman had asked for a lift. She found three people apart from the driver in the car, which was an app based taxi service provider. 

The driver of the car had claimed that the passengers were travelling on a shuttle basis. 

Thus she had decided to travel in the car. As the vehicle started moving, the trio had started disturbing her. The woman was allegedly raped by all of them. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that they had kept moving in around Salt Lake the entire night while she was being raped inside the car. At around 3.30 am, she was pushed out of the car near Baishaksi. 

She was lying almost unconscious on the spot for around half-an-hour. It is learnt that the police had later come to know that they had snatched her mobile phone. 

They had also taken away her purse and some jewellery. Thus she had failed to contact anyone for help. A taxi driver, who was passing through the area, found her lying and she was not in a condition to speak. He took the woman to Electronics Complex police station.  Policemen took her to Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital where she was admitted. 

Police later took her statement. The preliminary report of the doctors after necessary medical examination has stated that she was being sexually assaulted. 

Police have gone through the footages of all the surveillance cameras installed at the intersections of the roads at Salt Lake.  Though the police are yet to get answers of many questions, the footages have helped them to identify the car in which the crime was committed and the accused will be arrested soon.
