24-year-old turns blind after robbers attack her in Sonipat

A 24-year-old woman has been rendered blind after she was attacked by two robbers at her rented accommodation in Sector 13 Sonipat on Sunday.

The victim, who was brutally beaten up during the entire episode of robbery, was admitted to Delhi’s AIIM’s Trauma Center. The victim gained consciousness on Tuesday after which Sonipat Police registered a case against the two unknown persons on the basis of her statement.

The victim in her statement revealed that she had seen one of the accused near Sikka Colony in Sonipat after which the police have started investigating around the area.

She also said that when she was being attacked by the robbers, they told each other: “We just have to take the money from her. We haven’t received the order to murder her yet,” said one accused to another.

The incident took place in the wee hours on Sunday when two unidentified men broke open her house and demanded money. A fight broke out between the robbers and the victim in which the former attacked the victim by bursting a glass bottle on her head, after which she went unconscious.

The case went for a flip when the doctors at the local hospitals in Sonipat referred the victim to Delhi’s hospital by stating that she was a burn case or an acid attack victim, where as she had just received an injury due to which her eyes were bleeding profusely. Both Khanpur Medical College and the Civil Hospital had referred her as a burn case or an acid attack victim without actually examining her condition.

“The entire incident highlights the irresponsible behaviour on the part of the doctors where she was earlier taken to before she was brought to Civil Hospital. Since she was declared as a burned case and Civil Hospital doesn’t have a burn unit, she was referred to elsewhere,” said Dr Jaswant Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Sonipat. According to the police, the victim is a resident of Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, but was she was living in a rented accommodation in Sonipat’s Sector 13. Police said that she was working at a spa centre in Parker Mall.

Police also revealed that Vikas Goel, the victim’s employer was the last person who was in contact with her. He had come on Saturday evening to drop her at her residence. The incident came to light when Goel had come to pick her up the next morning only to find her lying on her floor and was bleeding from her eyes. He then immediately rushed her to the hospital and the police were called in. In the hospital, she was declared as an acid attack victim and referred to another hospital. To do a detailed investigation of the matter, the Forensic Science Laboratory team had reached the spot on Monday. The rented accommodation where the victim was living is known to be the house of a famous Haryana singer. Sources revealed that the victim had shifted to this house 15 days before the incident took place. The landowner had also not got her identification as a tenant done by police.
