24-year-old shot by gang of six for allegedly resisting robbery attempt

A 24-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by a six-member gang for resisting a robbery bid in the Modinagar area, police said here on Tuesday.
Deceased Suraj of Kusedi village worked as a cleaner in Ghaziabad and late on Sunday night, he took a lift on his friend’s motorbike.

‘When they reached near the Rajwahe flyover, six unidentified armed assailants stopped them and demanded money and their mobile phones,’ said a police officer. When Suraj resisted, one of them shot at him and fled, the officer added. He was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

‘We are investigating the case and all the six accused will be arrested soon,’ the officer said.
Earlier, officers of the two adjoining police stations got engaged in a dispute over the jurisdiction of the crime scene and refused to register a case for hours.
Following intervention from senior police officials, a case was registered at the Jani police station on Monday evening, sources said.
