22-yr-old allegedly molested by SOL student, friends near DU campus

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly molested and beaten up by five men at the Kamla Nehru Park in Delhi University campus.

She was there with a friend, who called up the police control room, at around 5.20 pm on January 4. The five accused, one of which is a student of the School of Open Learning (SOL) under the University of Delhi, were arrested immediately, said police on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Ankit Sharma (19), Nishant Jaiswal (21), Rohit Kumar (24), Rahul Avatar (19) and Prashant (22). Ankit Sharma is a second year student in SOL.

The spot where the incident happened is close to the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

According to the police, the victim and her friend are students of the Indira Gandhi National Open University and had come to the campus for some work.

The accused allegedly molested her and when she resisted, they allegedly beat her up.

Four PCR vans were rushed immediately. Later, the matter was handed over to the local police at Maurice Nagar, said a senior police official.
