2008 serial blasts: Senior Maharashtra officer asked to appear in court

Displeased with the ‘lack of regard’ for its order, a Delhi court conducting the trial in the 2008 serial blast case has directed a senior Maharashtra police officer to appear before it in person to explain why he is not producing an accused lodged there before him.

Additional sessions judge Narinder Kumar ordered DCP Belapur, Navi Mumbai to appear before him following his repeated failure to reply to court’s order on a contempt plea filed by one of the accused lodged in Taluja jail there.

‘DCP Belapur (Headquarters), Navi Mumbai, is directed to personally appear before this court and furnish para-wise reply to the application under Contempt of Courts Act.

‘Copy of this order be also sent to the office of the commissioner of police, Belapur (headquarter), Navi Mumbai, to apprise him of the state of affairs,’ the ASJ said. The DCP had earlier refused to accept the process sent to him by the court which, the ASJ said, ‘showed lack of regard on the part of the office of DCP, for court.’
