20-year-old commits suicide inside lock up

 A 20-year-old under-trail, Pankaj, committed suicide last Tuesday inside the lock up at Sadar police station. His body was found hanging from the roof at midnight by the police personnel on duty. However, no suicide note was found near the body.

Pankaj was accused of kidnapping a 12-year-old girl, with whom he was acquainted. The girl was from Laxman Vihar area, whose father had registered a complaint at the Sadar police <g data-gr-id="25">station,</g> after she agreed to run away with the Pankaj.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report confirmed that there was no foul play. 

Rajesh Kumar, the Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) said: “This is yet to be ascertained as to what instigated him to take such an extreme step.”

The Class VII minor explained in her statement to the magistrate that she was sexually assaulted and molested by the boy continuously for 11 days. The complaint shows that she was missing from August 29.

The boy was arrested under Section 366A and 363 of the Indian Penal Code.

“Even though the minor wishfully ran away with him, it will still remain a case of kidnapping, as she was under age,” Bijendre Singh, Station House Officer said.
