20 motorists challaned for not giving way to ambulance

Delhi Traffic police have <g data-gr-id="13" style="color: #3b3b3b; font-size: 11px;">challaned</g> 20 motorists for not giving right way to an ambulance while the police had provided a Green Corridor for transporting a live heart from a private hospital in Gurgaon to another in New Friends Colony. 

For the speedy transportation, the ambulance was being piloted by a traffic police gypsy. To take the drivers to task for obstructing the ambulance, Delhi Traffic Police had arranged for a video recording of the entire route.  

According to the police, based on the video which will suffice as evidence, those vehicles that obstructed the way of the ambulance and did not move to the left lane despite verbal directions and siren, have been identified. 

“Of these 35 vehicles, 23 were having registration numbers of Delhi, eight of Haryana, two of UP, one of Rajasthan and  one of Punjab. Special teams of prosecuting officers were sent at the registered addresses of Delhi and 20 offenders have been prosecuted by the court challan so far,” the officer added.  The penalty extends from a fine of Rs 2,000 to impounding the documents for personal appearance of the offenders in the concerned courts. 

“Matter is also being taken up with the transport authorities of Haryana, UP, Rajasthan and Punjab for similar action on their part against the errant vehicles registered there,” he added.
