2 TMC leaders shot dead outside party office in Kharagpur

Two Trinamool Congress leaders including the husband of a Councillor of Kharagpur Municipality were shot dead and three of their companions received bullet injuries when unidentified miscreants opened fire at them outside a party office at Bharatpur in Kharagpur on Wednesday afternoon.

Without naming BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, Trinamool Congress MP, Subrata Bakshi, said: “I am not ruling out the involvement of the local MLA in this incident as he is flexing muscles throughout the state against his opponents.”

Police said that the victims Trinamool Congress leaders Shrinu Naidu, husband of Councillor of Ward number 18 of Kharagpur Municipality Pooja Naidu, and Dharma Rao succumbed to their injuries on way to Kolkata as the doctor had advised to shift them to a hospital in the city when their condition deteriorated.

Police came to know after speaking to eye witnesses that four miscreants came on two motorbikes with their faces covered with clothes.

They had a tip-off that Shrinu and other Trinamool Congress leaders and workers will be present in the party office at that time. The miscreants opened fire when Shrinu and others stepped out of the party office.

Shrinu received bullet injuries on his head. The remaining four received injuries in their stomach and hands.

The incident led to panic in the area. People started running for a safe place as the miscreants were firing indiscriminately.

After the miscreants fled, local people went to the spot and found the leaders lying in a pool of blood.

Instead of waiting for the police, the local people took them to hospital.

Later, policemen and family members of the victim reached the hospital.

Doctors advised to take Shrinu and Dharma to a hospital in the city. They died on way to Kolkata on Wednesday evening.

Senior police officers went to the spot and initiated a probe in this connection.

It may be mentioned that Shrinu’s wife, Pooja had won in the municipal election as a BJP candidate.

Later she joined Trinamool Congress. Local Trinamool Congress workers raised allegations against BJP for the murder of two of their leaders.
