2 killed, 20 injured in Pak mosque blast

At least two people were killed and 20 others injured when a bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded on Friday outside a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in Pakistan’s largest city, the latest attack on the minority community in the country.

The bomb exploded at the entrance of Saleh mosque of minority Dawoodi Bohra community when people were coming out after prayers.

This is the first time that a bomb attack has been carried out at a mosque of the Bohra community in Karachi.

A doctor at the Civil hospital, where the injured were brought, said two people had died.

Panic and fear spread in the busy commercial area immediately after the blast.

Karachi, a city of 18 million, is rife with criminal, ethnic, political and sectarian violence which claim hundreds of lives each year.

In recent times extremist Sunni Muslim groups have carried out suicide bomb attacks on Shia Muslims. The attack came days after Taliban suicide bombers attacked churches in Lahore, killing fifteen people.
