2 jawans killed in U’khand as avalanche hits check-post

Two Army jawans were killed and another went missing when a snow avalanche triggered by incessant rains and heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand over the past two days hit Siyalekh checkpost on India-China border in Pithoragarh district.

Two Army choppers were pressed into service to search for the missing jawan but due to inclement weather and accumulation of heavy snow on the avalanche spot the search operation could not be properly conducted, Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand) District Magistrate Sushil Kumar said.
