2 HIL officials held for taking Rs 25K bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy GM and another senior official of Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) in Maharashtra’s Raigad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.

A CBI spokesperson identified the arrested as Deputy General Manager (Finance and Accounts) BP Sahu and Manager Vasant Gawde posted at HIL, an enterprise under Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in Rasayani in Panvel.

“A case was registered on a complaint lodged by a private contractor, alleging that Sahu and Gawde had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from him for release of the payment regarding a contract completed by him in the year 2013-14. The CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused, while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 as first instalment,” the spokesperson said.

They said searches were also conducted at the residences and office of both the accused and documents related to the case and certain property recovered.

In a separate case, the agency arrested a senior Section Engineer of Railways posted at Manmad railway station for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant. The arrested has been identified as BK Patil. 

“The accused had allegedly demanded a Rs 20,000 bribe from the complainant,” the spokesperson said.
