2 held for cloning users’ ATM card details, withdrawing money

Two persons have been arrested from South Delhi for disabling ATMs by spreading adhesives on keypads, cloning the card details and then withdrawing money from users’ account, police said on Tuesday.

Madan Rai and Pintu Kumar were arrested from Masjid Moth area on Monday, Additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.

The duo was caught by a security guard of an ATM of a private bank in Masjid Moth area.
Police registered a case on the complaint of the security guard Bir Bhan and arrested the accused, who hail from Jharkhand, the officer said.

During interrogation, the accused said they used to spread adhesive on the key board of ATM to disable it and when a user tried to withdraw money it did not work.

They also used to clone the details of the ATM cards of the user and later withdraw money from other ATMs. The arrest of the accused has led police to solve three cases of cheating.

Police said the accused had withdrawn Rs 10,000 from an ATM at Panchsheel, while Rs 41,000 from Masjid Moth and Rs 40,000 from Gautam Nagar, in the past by adopting the modus operandi, added the officer.
