2 dead, 1 injured in separate accidents on Ring Road

Two persons were crushed to death and one woman was severely injured in two separate accidents reported within a period of four hours at the same carriageway along the Ring Road stretch between South Delhi’s Nauroji Nagar and Safdarjung Hospital, police said on Wednesday.

Both spots are hardly two kilometres away from each other.

The first incident was reported around 9.15 pm on April 27 near the Safdarjung Hospital bus stand.

An unidentified man, aged around 55 years, was crushed to death by a speeding bus heading towards Andrews Ganj. The deceased was apparently trying to cross the street when the bus hit him and reportedly crushed his head. The pedestrian was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead, said a police official.

The incident was witnessed by an auto-rickshaw driver, who was hired from Dhaula Kuan and was heading towards South Delhi’s Tigri village.

The auto driver chased the bus, intercepted it near the South Extension flyover and held the bus driver, identified as Virender Singh, with the help of some locals. He later called up the police and handed the driver to the cops.

The second incident was reported around 1 am on April 28 near the Nauroji Nagar bus stand.

A youth from Manipur was crushed to death and his friend, a woman from Manipur, who was pillion riding, suffered from severe injuries when the motorcycle they were riding was hit from behind by a speeding truck.

Both were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital. There, the youth, identified as Sashap Kaishing, was declared brought dead and his friend Julie was admitted.

However, the truck fled from the scene and the driver couldn’t be held. Sashap was reportedly going to drop Julie at her rented apartment in Maharani Bagh, said a police official.

In both the incidents, the police registered cases under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC, the official added.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man was crushed to death by an unidentified vehicle near Vasant Vihar red light on Rao Tula Ram Marg in south Delhi on the wee hours of April 28.

The deceased, identified as Dinesh Kumar who resided in Ravidass Camp in RK Puram, was riding a bicycle, which was found a few metres away from his body.
