2 arrested for stealing over 1,000 I-Phones, cops recover 900

Delhi Police have arrested two persons in their early twenties and recovered around 900 I-Phones (5S series) worth around Rs 2.25 crore that they looted from a driver delivering this consignment, police said on Thursday.

The accused persons have been identified as Mehtab Alam (24) and Arman (22), both residents of Mahipalpur area. On Tuesday, police learnt that a consignment of around 1,000 I-Phones was sent from a company called Beetal in Okhla to Mudita Cargo Express in Dwarka. But in the mid-way near Rajokari flyover, a gang of robbers attacked and injured the driver with a knife. The assailants kidnapped him along with the Eicher Canter loaded with the consignment of I-Phones and took him to some unknown place.

They robbed around 1,000 I-Phones and dumped him at the underpass of Dwarka Link Road. During further investigation, it was learnt Malkhan Singh, owner of Eicher Canter used to provide drivers to the company for transportation of goods, told that two of his drivers Bhola and Pradeep had left the job two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, Mehtab Alam, and his co-accused Arman were arrested and 98 cartons of I-Phones (5S series) were recovered from Bengali Basti in Rangpuri area in Delhi. The Eeco Van used in crime was also recovered.

During interrogation, they confessed to having committed the crime along with their associates — Bhola, Rahul and Jitender — who are on the run.
