The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the CBI on the bail plea of former councillor Balwan Khokkar, serving life sentence in the jail after his conviction in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Justice GS Sistani and Justice GP Mittal sought a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by 27 August.
Apart from bail, Khokkar also challenged the trial court’s 30 April order convicting him and sentencing him to life imprisonment. The trial court on 30 April acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar but convicted five others, including Khokkar, in a case related to the killing of five people in Delhi Cantonment area.
