19-yr-old held for raping visually impaired girl

Delhi Police arrested a 19-year-old boy for allegedly raping a visually impaired minor girl in the Jahangirpuri area of North-west Delhi on Wednesday. According to the police, the accused boy has been identified as Wasim alias Lambu. He was absconding after the rape incident. Sources claim that around 15 cases of burglary were also registered against him in the North-west district in the past eight to ten months. Police found him on the basis of his height (6’2) as described by the minor girl.

According to the police, Wasim has been involved in many cases of burglary and had served punishment in jail. Few days after he was released, Wasim raped the blind minor girl living near his house in Jahangirpuri area on the pretext of friendship. After committing the crime, he was absconding.

A case of rape was registered at the Jahangirpuri police station under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenders) Act based on the complaint of the minor girl.
“It was difficult to track down the accused person who raped the minor girl as she was visually impaired. When she came to the police station to register the complaint along with her parents, she just gave the physical description of the accused who she described as being exceptionally tall,” said a senior police official.

According to the police, several teams were formed to nab the accused with searches carried out in the area.

The team eventually zeroed down on Wasim who was also known as Lambu among his friends. During sustained police interrogation, Wasim admitted that he had committed the crime.
