18-year-old loses battle with life to dengue

An 18-year-old youth is the latest dengue victim in the city.

Assad Iqbal, a resident of Shaheen Bagh area in Okhla, was admitted at the Apollo Hospital, where he died on Saturday because of dengue shock syndrome as stated by the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital for over a month.

According to the hospital authorities, Iqbal was admitted on August 26. He was referred to the Apollo hospital from another private hospital and was brought here in at a very critical state with extremely low blood pressure levels.

Hailing from Bihar’s Motihari district, Iqbal had come to Delhi to pursue higher studies.

Earlier, 17-year-old Farheen and 38-year-old Nazish succumbed of dengue.

Health minister Satyendar Jain in his address in the Delhi’s Assembly on August 23 tried to allay fear among residents and urged them not to panic because of rise in the number of dengue and chikungunya cases.

Jain suggested that patients of dengue and chikungunya  should avoid self-medication and asked them to consult doctors. “A lot of complications can be avoided if patients, who have contracted dengue or chikungunya avoid self-medication and keep themselves hydrated at all times,” Jain said.
