18-year-old girl ends life after she fails to qualify NEET

After failing to get admission in any medical college through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), an 18-year-old student has committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in South Delhi’s Pushp Vihar on Wednesday.

The girl has been identified as Sitara Trishna who had scored good marks in her class XII examination. She was preparing hard to get admission through NEET but she scored 1,833 rank in the entrance test. On Tuesday, after failing to get a call for the first counselling, she was depressed. However, no suicide note has been recovered.

According to the police, at the time of the incident she was alone in the house on the first floor of SIT tower in K-Block of Pushp Vihar area. Her mother went to the hospital, while her father, Trilochan who is posted as Section Officer in R K Puram’s Sashastra Seema Bal was also on his duty, and Trishna’s younger brother and sister had gone to school.

The incident came to light at around 1.30 pm when her mother’s call went unanswered and she informed one of the neighbours to find out the reason. In the meantime, Trishna’s siblings returned from school and found the door locked from inside. When someone managed to get inside the house from the window, Trishna was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

She was rushed to Max hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been preserved in the mortuary and the post-mortem is likely to be conducted on Thursday.
