16-yr-old student stabbed to death by classmate, parents blame school

Raising questions on the situation of security in Delhi’s government schools, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a minor boy in East Delhi area. The accused, also a minor, was allegedly carrying a kitchen knife used in the crime in his school bag and also managed to enter the school with the weapon.

According to police, the deceased, a resident of Mandawali, studying in a government school in Ganesh Nagar, had tried to intervene in a scuffle between two boys, when he was stabbed on the neck. However, the parents of the deceased have told this paper that the murder was pre-planned and also raised questions on the security arrangements in the school as the accused managed to carry a knife in the school premises.

The incident took place on Friday, when the deceased, a class X student was returning from the school at around 6 pm. “When the boy was returning, he saw two boys who were having an argument over some issue. However, the argument turned physical and the accused started beating the student,” said a senior police official privy to the investigation.

The victim, tried to intervene in the matter, however, the accused took out a knife from his bag and then procedded to stab him on the neck. The police have maintained that two other students were also injured in the scuffle and were soon discharged from a local hospital after they were treated for their injuries. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The police were informed about the incident and on reaching the cops managed to apprehend the accused. The police have maintained that the fight did not take place inside the school premises and took place near a tea stall right outside the school.

However, the parents of the deceased, have alleged that the murder was pre-planned. “My son was not supposed to attend school that day. But at around 4 pm, he got a call from someone and he left for school, he never told us why he went there,”  said the victim’s mother.

The deceased’s sister also alleged that it was a pre-planned murder. “We knew that my brother had got into a fight with some students 20 days back. He told us that he was trying to sort out the situation but he still faced problems from those students. When we asked about how my brother died, his friends informed us that nobody came to save him,” she said.

The parents of the deceased are now blaming the school administration for the murder and have said that lax security had caused the death. The school administration could not be contacted during the filing of this report. However, cops registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC.
