16-year-old boy found dead in Vasant Kunj

<g data-gr-id="27">Body</g> of a 16-year-old boy was found in a pond near an old mining site at the southern peripheries of South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Monday.

The incident came to light around 12.30 pm when locals called up the police and reported to have seen slippers floating in the pond, suggesting that someone had drowned.

A team of divers was deployed and the body was recovered after a two-hour-long operation, said a police official.

The deceased was identified as Ravish, son of Budhram Yadav, residents of a slum cluster nearby. Ravish was a class 9 student at a government school in South Delhi.

When his parents were informed, it emerged that the boy was missing since last evening. Ravish’s parents and neighbours looked for him for several hours but did not report the matter to the police, despite failing to track him till midnight, said the official.

After Ravish’s body was identified today, it was sent for a postmortem examination and later handed over to the family.

Prima facie, the boy allegedly jumped into the pool of water or accidentally fell into it while walking at the mine area in the dark, said an official privy to the investigation, adding that so far in the probe the police have sensed no foul play.
