15-year-old girl found hanging from tree

Tension gripped Sitai village in Cooch Behar after the body of a 15-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree which is close to her house on Wednesday morning, police said. 

The local residents staged demonstration when police reached the spot to recover the body. They alleged that the victim, who was a student of class X, was raped and murdered. The agitation was lifted after senior police officers assured the local residents to take necessary action. 

The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem. The victim’s family members have told the police that some people forcibly took the girl from their house. They also looked for the girl almost everywhere in the nearby areas but failed to find her. Later they registered a missing complaint at the local police station. The victim’s relatives told police that the miscreants came and forcibly took her when she was asleep. 

Police, however, investigating into the whole incident. Police said there were injury marks on various parts of her body. The girl was not properly dressed when her body was recovered. 

Police are conducting search operation at various places to arrest the culprits. The local people were being probed in this regard.
