15-year-old girl accidentally falls off terrace while browsing phone, dead

Mystery shrouds the death of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found lying on the ground in front of her house at Netaji Nagar area in the Southern fringes of the city on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Anushka Mondal, a meritorious student from South Point High School was on the roof top on Tuesday morning when the incident took place.

Some local people first spotted Anushka lying in the pool of blood in front of her house ‘Taruchhaya’ a four storeyed building and informed the police. Police then rushed to the spot and the victim was taken to MR Bangur Hospital where the doctors pronounced her brought dead.

The incident came like a shock not only to the victim’s family members but also to her classmates and teachers in the school. According to the school sources, Anushka was a brilliant student and used to score more than 90 marks in the examinations.

Victim’s family members told the police that she used to spend some time on the roof every morning. Police came to know, after interrogating Anushka’s family members, that she was excessively addicted to social media for which she was undergoing counselling.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the girl fell when she was sitting on the wall of the roof with her legs crossed. Police also suspect that the victim somehow lost balance while sitting on the boundary wall of the roof as she may have been engrossed into social media at the time of the incident. Police have recovered her mobile phone from the roof and are also going through the call list of the victim. During the course of the investigation, police also came to know that the girl was suffering from mental depression for sometime.

Police are also investigating whether there was any foul play behind the death of the school girl. Police said that the victim had received severe head injuries as she had a fall from the roof top of four-storeyed building. Police are also investing to ascertain the cause of her depression. They are trying to find out if she was had any affair.

Some local people told the police that they heard a loud thud and found that the girl was lying on the ground just in front of her house. The investigating officers are not, however, ruling out the possibility of the girl committing suicide. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
