15-year-old boy held for molesting minor girl

Police apprehended a 15-year-old boy on the charge of molestation and sexual harassment on Friday at Howrah’s Santragachi. Later, the boy was produced before Juvenile Justice Court at Liluah.

The boy allegedly molested and sexually assaulted a minor girl at Santragachi Government quarters on Friday. The girl was playing with some of her friends at a ground inside the campus. The boy allegedly gagged her and took her away.

“The girl later came back to her house. She was crying. Her parents asked her the reason and she described the traumatic incident to them,” said Ramananda Roy, a neighbour.

The parents took their daughter to the police station. They lodged a complaint there. Later, they took the girl to the hospital. “The 15-year-old boy was the prime accused. But he was not alone. One of his friends was also there. But he was not involved in the act,” said an investigating officer.

“The accused boy was taken to a destitute home. The court has instructed his parents to meet him there,” the officer said.

However, the police interrogated the parents and other relatives of accused boy. They were called up at the police station.

The investigators believed that the boy, a Class IX student of a local school, tried to rape the minor girl. The girl raised her alarm and managed to escape from there.

It will be recalled that a minor girl was raped at South Dinajpur’s Hili by a local boy a month ago. He was taken to the Juvenile Justice court there. The accused is now under mental rehabilitation in a home.
