13-yr-old abducted boy’s body found lying in a drain in Rani Garden

According to police, the boy, identified as Utkarsh Verma, a class 8 student of Vivekanand Public School in Anand Vihar, was kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon while he was returning home from school. At around 2.15 pm, the private cab driver dropped Utkarsh at Satsang Marg, few steps away from his residence in Rajgarh Colony.

When Utkarsh did not reach home, his worried mother, Mamta, called up his friends and the cab driver who informed her that he had already dropped him near his residence. She then informed her husband who runs a jewellery business in the same colony. The victim’s parents went to the police station and filed a missing complaint.

To begin with, CCTV footages from the cameras installed near Satsang Marg were investigated. In one of the footages, Utkarsh was spotted sitting in his school cab at the front seat. No CCTV cameras were installed in the mid-way of the dropping point and victim’s residence.

At around 7.40 pm, Mamta received the first ransom call from the kidnappers who demanded Rs 1 crore to release Utkarsh. Further, the kidnappers again made a call at 12 am and informed victim’s parents that they will soon decide the venue and time for the deal. When the kidnappers failed to make another call, Mukesh, victim’s father tried to call back but the mobile was switched off. On Wednesday morning at around 7 am, a passerby noticed a dead body of a child in a drain in Rani Garden area of east Delhi. After receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and called Utkarsh’s parents to identify the body.

The body has been sent for the post-mortem. ‘We are investigating the matter in all plausible angles. There is a possibility that someone known to the victim’s family is behind the crime. Probe is on to find out the identity of the culprit,’ the police official said.
