12-year-old girl killed in celebratory firing

During a wedding in west Delhi, a 12-year-old girl was killed by her cousin in celebratory firing. The incident took place on Sunday night in Mundka area on the day Delhi witnessed 10,000 marriages all over the city.

The accused, identified as Shankar, was arrested by the police soon after the incident.

Shankar is a businessman who resides along with his family in Moti Nagar. On Sunday, he went to his friend’s wedding long with her cousin Shivi.

According to the police, Shivi received bullet injury around 10.45 pm on Sunday at the ceremony organised in IP Motel situated in west Delhi’s Mundka. ‘The bullet pierced Shivi’s heart, causing her death instantly,’ said a police official.

Her cousin, Shankar, was shooting to celebrate using his uncle’s pistol when one of the bullets fired by him accidentally hit the girl, added the officer. The girl was taken to the nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

After the post-mortem examination, the body of the girl was handed over to the family. A case of murder has been registered against the deceased’s brother.

In yet another similar incident, a man was injured during open-air firing in Kanjhawla area in outer Delhi. The accused has been absconding from the crime scene.
