12-year-old boy killed, two others injured in flat roof collapse

In a tragic incident in Outer Delhi’s Rohini, at Begumpur, a 12-year-old boy was killed, and two injured severely when a roof of a DDA?building collapsed on him on Monday.

‘A call was made to the police control room about the incident at around 12.15 pm,’ said a police official.

According to the neighbours, the three kids were playing inside an empty house when a concrete slab came crashing down. While one died on the spot the others received severe head injuries.

Dilshan, the victim, lives with his family at Begampur and was playing along with his friends on the top floor of a house in Rohini Sector 21 when the incident occurred.

The kids were rescued by the fire engines, which arrived at the spot immediately. ‘Three fire tenders were also rushed to the spot over reports that few children were stuck under debris,’ said a police official.

Dilshan died on the spot, and others were immediately rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. Dilshan’s body was handed back to family after post-mortem on Tuesday. According to the hospital authorities, the children who are undergoing treatment are out of danger.

According to the police officials, the DDA Janta Flats building are over 20 years old and was not maintained well.

‘We have registered the case, and are investigating further,’ said a police official.
