$12 lakh worth bills found inside unclaimed bag at RK Puram

Believe it or not, but an unclaimed foreign currency of $12 lakh kept in a locker that was stuffed with a brown cloth bag was found from South Delhi’s RK Puram area on Monday. However, police have not ruled out the possibility that the currency could be fake.

Initially, it was believed that the bag that was lying at the roadside in Sector-5 of RK Puram could be a bomb. But later, when it was opened, all the police personnel, locals and officials of bomb disposal squad were stunned seeing huge amount of foreign currency stuffed in a locker kept inside the bag.

According to a senior police official of the South district, a call to the police control room was made by some one alleging that an unclaimed bag is lying at the roadside. The PCR team along with the district police reached the spot. In the meantime, bomb disposal squad was also informed who also reached the spot with necessary equipment.

“When the bomb disposal squad opened the bag, a locker was found that was locked using a number password. The team managed to open the locker with all safety and 24 bundles of foreign currency was found stuffed inside the locker. Later, when the bag was handed over to the police it was found that 24 bundles of 50,000 dollars each were kept in the locker,” the official said.
