112 challans made for burning leaves

Delhi government has directed the government agencies, civic bodies and DDA to expedite inspection and fine on those violating garbage burning and dust control norms. As per action taken report by various government departments, 112 challans were issued for garbage or leaf burning, 34 for violation of dust control norms and three plywood factories were sealed for polluting the air.
“We have directed the concerned officers of DDA to come with action taken report in the next meeting scheduled on December 28. The performance of civic bodies was very poor and they have been directed to increase the vigil,” said Satendra Jain. As per the orders of NGT, those found guilty of burning dry leaves or garbage will be slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 while a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed on the owners and builders found violating dust control measures in Delhi. In the drive all the SDMs, Tehsildars were asked to increase the vigil in their respective areas and challan the violators. The government has delegated the powers to assistant engineers of PWD for imposing compensation against burning in the open as well as against violators of dust control measures.
