11-yr-old girl’s body found stuffed in sack

The body of an 11-year-old girl was found stuffed in a gunny bag near her house in Northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur area on Wednesday, police said. 

The police have sent her body for post-mortem to ascertain if she was sexually assaulted or not. “Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was strangulated. We have sent her body for post-mortem,” said a police officer, investigating the case.

“A case of murder has been registered at the New Usmanpur police station and a probe has been initiated,” he added.

According to the police, the incident came to light around 9am when a man saw the unattended gunny bag lying at the end of a lane in the Gautampuri area of New Usmanpur. He raised an alarm and informed other residents, who informed the police. 

The police are also questioning residents of the area and the victim’s relatives to find out if she had an enmity with any one. The police are also scanning the footage captured by CCTV cameras installed in nearby shops to establish the exact sequence of events.

The police said the girl, a Class 5 student at a government school, went missing on Tuesday evening. 

The victim’s mother told the police that she had sent her daughter to buy groceries from a nearby shop on Tuesday afternoon. But when she did not return till late in the evening, the family started looking for her, after which they filed a missing complaint at the local police station.
