11-year-old raped in Malda

A class V student was raped inside a lichi garden at Kaliachak in Malda, police said on Tuesday. The incident had taken place on Saturday but the victim’s mother had feared to lodge a complaint as she was being threatened with dire consequences. 

Police said the 11-year-old girl went to the lichi garden near her house. The accused Pronab Mondal found the girl moving around all along in the garden. He approached her and promised of giving her some lichis. He took the girl to a deserted place where he allegedly raped her. 

The girl became unconscious after which the accused had left the place. Her family members had initiated a search as she didn’t return till late in the evening. Finally they found her lying unconscious in the garden. 

She had also received a fracture on her right hand while obstructing Mondal from sexually assaulting her. Police initiated a search operation to arrest him.
