11-year-old boy killed in road accident in Mukundapur

Two persons, including a school student, were killed in two separate road accidents in the city on Friday.

Police said a dumper hit a bicycle on the way to the victim’s school at Nayabad near Mukundapur on Friday morning.

The bicycle was being ridden by a woman, who was being accompanied by her 11-year-old son Akash Biswas.

Both the woman and her son, a student of class VI, fell on the road after being hit by the dumper loaded with soil. The boy received severe injuries on his head.

People saw him lying in a pool of blood. His mother also received minor injuries.

Local people took both of them to hospital, where the boy was declared brought dead. The mother was released after necessary treatment.

The driver of the dumper attempted to flee, leaving the vehicle. However, he was caught by the local people, who went on to beat him up. Later, he was handed over to the police. Local people put up a road block to protest against the accident and demanded posting of traffic police at the spot. The agitation continued for around three hours and led to inconvenience to many commuters due to massive traffic congestion.

Senior police officers intervened and managed to bring the situation under control.

In another road accident near Baghajatin Flyover on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, a bus on Garia-Belur Math route overturned on Monday.

The bus driver failed to control the vehicle while descending from the flyover.

Eight persons, including the conductor of the bus, received severe injuries. Police rescued the people trapped inside the bus and took them to hospital where the conductor succumbed to his injuries. The incident led to traffic congestion as well.
