11 killed, eight injured in two road accidents

Eleven people were killed and eight others injured in two separate road accidents that took in Murshidabad and Purulia early on Wednesday morning.

Seven people were killed at Suti area in Murshidabad when a motor van in which they were travelling got stuck between two trucks on National Highway 34. Police said that accident took place when the motor van came under the wheels on a bridge.

The victims died on the spot while eight people were taken to the Jangipur Sub-divisional Hospital. Some of them are stated to be critical. Police said that the accident took place early in the morning. The motor van with 15 passengers was going Suti from Raghunathgange when the incident took place. The witnesses told the police that the driver of the motor van could not stop the vehicle when he suddenly saw the truck coming from the opposite direction. Police suspect that as there was poor visibility due to fog the truck that was coming from behind could not see the motor van.

Police said the bus was going to Bandoan from Manbazar. The driver of the Maruti van and the passengers died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
