10 arrested in 2 separate cases of illegal arms possession

Police arrested ten persons from Malda and Lake Town on charges of possessing illegal firearms.

Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid and arrested Kasuhik Mahanto, Sunil Harijan, Asim Chowdhury, Ayesh Ali and Apu Singha from near Krishnapalli Rail gate in Malda. 

They had assembled in a hideout and they were about to meet someone on Monday morning. Five single shot guns, one pipe-gun, cartridges and sickles were found from them. They were produced before the Court on Monday and were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

Police said that there were several allegations against all five of them and their arrest will help them to get information about other miscreants those are still absconding.

Three others – Mokadden Hossain, Md Sayem and Memadul Sheikh were arrested on Sunday night from Malanchapalli. Firearms were recovered from them. 

Police found two stolen motorbikes from them. Police said that there were several allegations against them and the police were searching for them for the past few months. Acting on a tip off, policemen from Englishbazar police station conducted the raid and arrested the trio.

Meanwhile, three miscreants were arrested from Lake Town in the wee hours on Monday. They had gathered in the area and firearms were recovered from them.
