1 killed, 5 injured as car rams into call centre cab in Begumpur

A 35-year-old man died and five women were injured when a Swift Dzire car collided with a call centre cab in Outer Delhi's Begumpur area late Tuesday night, the police said. 

The deceased was identified as Pankaj. The police have detained the errant cab driver and impounded his vehicle, a Mahindra SUV.

Police said the accident took place around 10:30pm at 100 Phoota Road near Begumpur Sector 23 when Pankaj, who owns a workshop in Sector 2, was returning to his home in the Budh Vihar area by his Swift Dzire car.

The police said the Mahindra SUV, heading towards Begumpur, brushed past Pankaj’s car. Both the vehicles were damaged in the collision, said a police officer.

However, Pankaj’s family members have alleged that he died in a road rage case as he had suffered multiple fractures on the head, hands and neck, sources said.

After the accident, a resident made a PCR call. A police team arrived on the spot and admitted Pankaj to the Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. While the five injured – Sita, Payal, Surbhi, Pooja and Laxmi, , who were travelling in the cab suffered minor injuries in the accident. They are recuperating in the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

The police said Pankaj’s body would be handed over to his family after post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the police are scanning the CCTV cameras installed in the area to establish the exact sequence of events.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death due negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Begumpur police station. Further investigation is underway.
