1 held for robbery, 5 on the run

Six armed men, suspected to be robbers, opened fire at two kirana shops on Sunday in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area after one of the shopkeepers raised an alarm. One of them has been arrested, while others are on the run, police said.

The incident took place around 11 am when the six armed men came to the shops and pointed pistols at the shopkeepers with an intention to rob. When one of the shopkeepers raised an alarm, the armed assailants opened fire.

Three persons identified as Bhomraj, his son Mohit and Ashok received injuries, said a police official. The accused, who came on motorbikes, tried to flee, but residents managed to nab one of them, identified as Karthik, who was later handed over to the police. The police have recovered one country-made pistol, a cartridge and a motorcycle with a UP number plate from his possession. Further investigation is underway.
