BSF is target of Pak firing, not army

Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia did speak to his counterpart in Pakistan as  they usually do every Tuesday. He held the conversation amidst the ongoing Army Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi.

Army sources had earlier confirmed that Pakistan army’s incessant firing across the Line of Control (LOC) and the international border and Indian army’s response had naturally been discussed at length by senior military leadership of the country.

Military observers in this side of the border noticed a subtle shift in Pakistan’s cross-border firing that had been continuing ceaselessly for the past few months. The firing is now against the para-military, Border Security Force (BSF) and not the army.

This, security observers say, is a result of the US leaning on Pakistan army to ease up on its operations across the Line of Control (LOC) and the international border (IB). Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan prime minister was on a visit to Washington where he met met the US president, Barack Obama on Wednesday, besides the US secretary of state, John Kerry and the US national security adviser, Susan Rice. While the Indian army claims that it has thwarted a lot of these infiltrators, they cannot surely vouchsafe that there have been minimal infiltrations this summer.
